On a VERY cold day, -47* F., in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, Gulnara Siapidinova became Emma Alexandra P. Words could not describe the feelings we had that day. Becoming parents for the first time after 10 years! From the moment they handed her to us she was amazing. We had an instant bond. Here is a photo of Emma the morning before court:
Looking back at her that morning she was pale, void and very quiet. We really didn't think much of it until later that same day once we had her in our arms forever.
Leaving the orphanage after court and heading to the apartment we were staying in.
Emma just a few hours after we took custody! She had color in her skin, sparkle in her eyes, a smile on her face! It was as though someone plugged in a Christmas tree!
The same night out at dinner. Look at that smile! From the first moment, it was as though Emma knew we were her parents. She was so happy and full of life! She slept through the night the very first night and every night since. She would eat anything you gave her and wouldn't stop eating! She still is a very good eater, although, 7 year olds do find the smallest brown speck in something and have issues with it... She was and is a dream come true!

Emma is a funny, smart, loving, artistic and beautiful child. She is loyal to those she loves. She LOVES dinosaurs and can tell you all sorts of things about them. She can sit and draw for hours. She is the light of our lives! Mark and I always say we could not have created this little girl. We loved her from the moment we saw that picture and our love for her grows everyday! We are truly blessed to call her daughter! What a wonderful 6 years this has been! We can't wait to see what the future holds for her. I have a feeling it will be very special. If you ask Emma what she wants to be when she grows up... right now it is an Paleontologist, she says she is going to go find dinosaur bones. Boy, do we love this little girl! Happy Gotcha Day Emma!

No offense, but archaeology doesn't do dinosaur bones. As an anthropology/archaeology major, I felt I should state that. It's Paleontology that does dinosaurs.
